Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 November 2026
This policy explains what data the serpwell app handles, where it is kept and how you stay in control of it. In short: the app runs on your own Mac, your data stays on your Mac and in the backup location you choose, and nothing is sold or shared.
Where your data is kept
- On your Mac. Crawls, audits, action plans, keyword research and settings are saved in a database on your Mac, in
~/Library/Application Support/serpwell. - In the backup location you choose. Daily backups are saved on your Mac and, if you turn it on, in a folder you pick (for example a synced folder) or in your own Google Drive. Backups can be protected with a password.
- In the macOS Keychain. Google sign-ins, the Google Cloud client secret and API keys for other services are kept in your Mac's Keychain, which macOS encrypts. They are never written to the database, exports, backups or logs.
There is no serpwell account and no serpwell server that receives your data. The people who make serpwell cannot see your audits, your keyword research or your Google data.
Google data
Connecting a Google account is optional. You can connect one Google account per client, for its Search Console and Google Analytics, and one Google account for backups to Google Drive. Each connection asks only for the access below.
| Access (scope) | What it is used for |
|---|---|
Search Console, read-onlyhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly |
Lists the Search Console properties the account can see so you can pick the one for a client, and reads that property's search performance (search queries, positions, clicks, impressions and pages) to show it next to the client's audit. It cannot change anything in Search Console. |
Google Analytics, read-onlyhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly |
Lists the Google Analytics properties the account can see so you can pick the one for a client, and reads that property's traffic data to show it next to the client's audit. It cannot change anything in Google Analytics. |
Google Drive, only files the app createshttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file |
Used only for backups. The app creates a folder called "serpwell backups", uploads backup files into it, lists the backups it made, and moves old ones to the Drive bin on the keep schedule you choose (Google empties the bin after 30 days). With this access the app cannot see, open or change any other file in your Drive. |
Email addresshttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email |
Shows which Google account is connected. |
How Google data is stored
- The sign-in Google gives the app (a refresh token) is kept in the macOS Keychain.
- The connected email address and the properties you picked are saved in the database on your Mac.
- Search Console and Analytics data the app reads is saved in the database on your Mac, so it is also part of that client's backups in the location you chose.
How Google data is used and shared
- Google data is used only to show it to you inside the app, for the client you connected it to.
- It is not sold, rented or shared with third parties.
- It is not used for advertising, and it is not used to build user profiles.
- It is not sent to AI services and is not used to train AI models.
- No person reads it. It stays on your Mac and in your own backup location.
Google API Services User Data Policy. serpwell's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Disconnecting Google and removing access
- A client's Google account: open that client's settings, click Google data and then Disconnect. Deleting the client in serpwell disconnects it too.
- The backup Google account: open Settings > Backups and click Disconnect. Backups already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
- Every Google account at once: open Settings > Integrations and click Use different codes.
Disconnecting asks Google to cancel the app's access and deletes the saved sign-in from your Keychain and the saved account details from the database.
You can also remove access at any time from your Google account: go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, choose serpwell and click Delete all connections (Google may label it Remove access).
Deleting your data
Deleting a client in serpwell deletes its crawls, action plan, keyword research and Google data from the database on your Mac. Backup files are separate: delete them from your backup folder or Google Drive if you no longer want them. To remove everything else, delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/serpwell and, in the Keychain Access app, the items named serpwell.
Other services you choose to connect
Some features use services you connect with your own key. When you use them, the app sends those services only what the feature needs, and they handle it under their own privacy policies:
- Websites you crawl receive normal page requests, like any visitor.
- Google PageSpeed and the Chrome UX Report receive the addresses of the pages to test.
- DataForSEO receives the keywords, domains and locations you search for.
- The AI service you pick (for example Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok) receives the audit details needed for the suggestion you ask for. Google data is never included.
- Webhooks and automations you set up receive the events you choose, at the address you enter.
